GLOBAL EARTH SOLAR ENERGY BUDGET WITH REGARD TO ENERGY TRANSITION
WORLD ENERGY DEMAND
The demand for energy is increasing non-linear with the growth of the world population.
Nowadays we are trying to make a transition to sustainable clean energy. The atmosphere of the earth contains large amounts of absorbed solar energy that can be utilized for energy production.
Approximations
- Our civilisation generates about around 20 TW.
- 18 TW is produced in the process of combusting fossil fuels and partially responsible for the increasing greenhouse gasses content in the atmosphere.
- Earth solar energy budget in terms of incoming solar radiation 174,000 TW.
- Reflected back to space by the atmosphere or by the earth surface 52,000 TW.
- Absorbed in the upper troposphere 60,000 TW
- Absorbed by the earth’s surface 62,000 TW
- Assuming that the total absorbed energy in account of 122.000 TW is responsible for the average Earth temperature that is approximate 15 degrees Celsius.
Ergo: very simplified 122.000 TW is representing 15 degrees Celsius that is steadily becoming higher because the Green House mechanism traps more energy.
By approximation 122.000 TW of solar energy is involved the greenhouse mechanism that determines our weather. And a small part of it would be enough to meet the world's energy needs.
